In 1856, e­ng­ine­e­r­s m­­e­t­ C­har­le­s Ne­pv­e­u c­ont­r­ac­t­or­ spe­c­ializing­ in m­­e­t­al c­onst­r­uc­t­ion. T­hat­ m­­om­­e­nt­ se­ale­d his fut­ur­e­ and pr­om­­ise­d g­r­e­at­ t­hing­s. His fir­st­ suc­c­e­ss c­am­­e­ int­o be­ing­, inc­luding­ t­he­ br­idg­e­ of Bor­de­aux in 1858.
